The renovation of the Singing Arrow Park play area was completed as part of the City of Albuquerque’s initiative to restore playgrounds citywide. Anthropopulus collaborated with partners at the Parks & Recreation Department to design a play area that provides an inclusive play environment and opportunities for engagement with natural materials. Soft plants were selected with curious fingers in mind, as were special trees that will provide shade and whimsy. Stepping stones, boulders, and logs provide a fun challenge for hopping, scrambling, and balancing. The project also took advantage of the site’s expansive views of the Tijeras Arroyo by creating an overlook. Shaded by an existing mature tree the team worked to retain, the overlook area includes seating and space for conversation and reflection.
