Project Name: Piñon Park
Client: Los Alamos County Community Services
Location: White Rock, NM
Year: 2026
Piñon Park, also known as Rocket Park, is a beloved playground in White Rock, New Mexico. Anthropopulus collaborated with the Los Alamos County Community Services Department to create a new, inclusive play environment at this familiar and well-used community space that has served generations of families.
The recent improvements update the site and add both play equipment and natural play elements while preserving its identity. Upgrades include all new play equipment including a tower structure reminiscent of the old rocket tower many seasoned residents remember from their youth. Improved green stormwater infrastructure was installed as was a widened multi-use trail that connects to the existing trail system in the park.
At the heart of the park, the iconic soaring rocket ship was refurbished with a new color scheme chosen by the community to coordinate with the new playground, maintaining and extending a key piece of community memory. The redesigned play environment incorporates activities for children ages 2 to 12, with opportunities for climbing, spinning, swinging, and sliding distributed throughout the site.
