Project Name: Coyote Creek Campground
Client: EMNRD
Location: Sangre de Cristo Mountains
Year: 2021 - 2026
Coyote Creek State Park is within Guadalupita Canyon in northern New Mexico. Beginning in 2021, team members developed a master plan to guide the parkβs redevelopment and expansion focused on improving accessibility, utility rehabilitation, increased camping opportunities, and improved visitor amenities while responding sensitively to the siteβs natural setting.
The Anthropopulus team worked with State Parks Staff and Spears Horn Architects to realize the vision in the master plan, designing improvements park-wide. The first phase of construction was completed in 2024, and included rehabilitation of the Encino Loop campground, refurbishment of the water system, improvements to multiple campsites, and the construction of Asseradero Loop featuring several new campsites, a new vault toilet, and the first rentable cabins in the New Mexico State Parks system.
The second phase of construction was completed in 2025 and included renovation of the overflow camping area and construction of two new RV sites.
The next phase of construction will begin Fall of 2026 and will include improvements to the group shelter, including a new vehicular bridge across Coyote Creek, improvements to RV sites, renovation of the parking area and pay station at the convenience station, an accessible fishing deck, and a picnic area with shade structures.
