Through a joint powers agreement with the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, the Village of Corrales has gained the ability to utilize and maintain the area around the 2-mile long Interior Drain — a drainage facility that no longer functions as intended due to a low water table. Originally initiated by community members in 2020, the Corrales Interior Drain Master Plan identifies specific goals and recommendations for conservation and management of the drain property. The Anthropopulus team built on the work of the Village’s Interior Drain Committee, conducting additional community engagement and developing a master plan to re-envision the drain for safe, enjoyable, and essential public use while maintaining tranquility for adjacent residents. An online survey, paired with on-site activities like group tours and hayrides, community meetings, and participation in community events, helped to inform the plan, which includes a phased framework for adaptive implementation and ongoing stewardship. Recommended actions are low-impact, low-cost, and matched with identified funding sources, the plan ensures the drain property will continue as a valued and well-stewarded resource that reflects and serves the interests of the community.
